IDOL FINALE TONIGHT

The finale is tonight. Lots of old idol talent is around, with Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry and other all in the city. Will they be on the show? I don’t want to spoiler anything but I’ve seen some of the guests, and it looks like it will be a great show. Last year’s finale was actually very good with a lot of interesting performances and I see no reason this won’t be the same.

As far as last night…a lackluster end to a lackluster season.
BLAKE: Being a gentleman he went first and allowed Jordin to go last. He started with YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME, good, but lacking the surprise impact it had the first time. His second song YOU WILL BE LOVED was very nice, but not loved by the judges. I thought it was nice but it’s not a great show. Then, the Idol single, the bland, feeling less ode to how great this moment should be that has not worked since Kelly ripped through A MOMENT LIKE THIS. It wasn’t his style song, he half assed it and it was a terrible way to end for him.

JORDIN: Jordin started out with FIGHTER (Christina Aguilera) and it was pretty awful. Randy loved the singing though. She then sang her redo, BROKEN WING which was probably even better than the first time she sang it, totally winning over Simon. She ended with the Idol single THIS IS MY NOW, which sounded more natural coming from her and wasn’t at all bad. She wasn’t great but she was good and she sang well, and the dichotomy with Blake really showed. You kind of felt at that point that she had won.

If anyone had an agenda last night it was Randy. Simon seemed generally won over by Jordin by her third song. Randy seemed won over by Jordin prior to her first song. She was clearly out sung by Blake in the first song, but he went out of his way to rationalize it. When she shined, he was over the top in his praise again. Randy, you like Jordin. We get it. The other thing with an agenda was the (always bad) Idol single. It was made to be sung by a woman, and as a R&Bish ballad. Um, hello? How is that fair? NBA Playoff comparison again, its like the NBA suspending the Suns and allowing the Spurs to win, I don’t think it’s an attempt to cheat, I think it’s people in charge too stupid to sit back and say “Hey, this might not be fair”.

My prediction, our American Idol winner is JORDIN SPARKS. I really want to say Blake, and I thought he had a chance going into last night but he was really outshined by Jordin. It would be a real upset at this point if Blake was able to pull it off. It doesn’t have the Fantasia or Taylor feeling of just a coronation, but it may be close by the time we get to the end of tonight’s show.
